A spectacular wallpaper image taken from a camera mounted on the outside of the rocket that launched the Mars Climate Orbiter.

This image was photographed on December 9, 1998. The camera was mounted on the second stage of the rocket and pointed directly towards the ground. The photograph taken approximately one and a half minutes after launch and about 10 seconds after the four solid rocket boosters had been discarded. The white coloured material in the foreground of the image is a layer of snow that develops on the exterior of the rocket just prior to liftoff.
